This game uses an ATB system mixed with an action battle system, essentially letting you use commands as long as your ATB is full, but also letting you run around the battlefield to dodge enemies and to place yourself strategically for attack.
Controls
You move around the battlefield the same way you move around normally, with WASD or the arrow keys depending on your settings, while controlling the battle command menu using your mouse.
Use the scroll wheel to cycle through the menu items, the left mouse button to do the selected command, and right click to back out of menus or cancel, you can also use numbers 1-5 on your keyboard to shortcut to different parts of the menu.
In most cases the direction of the attack will go towards your mouse, but in some cases attacks may automatically home, require a target or go in a specific direction.
Weapon Types
Different types of weapons will have different pros and cons, for example, swords will be pure strength focused, dealing maximum damage using your physical ATK stat, however their reach will be short, forcing you to be closer to enemies. On the other hand, bows have a longer range, but arrows will slow down the longer they fly through the air, making them do less damage the further you are from your enemy, these are just two examples, and there will be lots of different weapon types for you to discover and try out for yourself to figure out what works with your playstyle and build.
Weapon Abilities
Different weapon types have different secondary abilities, found as the second command on your command list in battle, just under attack, for now this system is still WIP so all weapons have the Defend command, however the command will eventually depend on what type of weapon you have equipped.
Crit vs Weakness
Physical attacks, including skills will always have the ability to crit an enemy, the crit rate and bonus damage will depend on the players stats, magical attacks however can never crit, instead they will always do double damage on enemies that are weak to its element, or half damage to enemies that resist its element, there are also some cases where enemies will be completely immune to certain elements or even absorb it to heal themselves.
Status Conditions
Throughout battles the player can be effected by special status conditions such as Poison, which damages the player over time, or Silence, which leaves the player unable to use skills during its duration, and many others, all status conditions are reset after battle, and most conditions can be cured using items if available.
ATB
Attacking can be done as long as you got a full ATB, the rate at which it fills up is determined by your speed % stat and what command you use, skills will have different rates at which the ATB will fill after it is performed, for example V-Slash has an ATB stat of 125%, so after the command is used, the ATB will fill 25% slower than if you did a basic attack.
Death and Game Over
If you die in battle you will be sent back to your spawn point, there are no other penalties other than having to walk back to where you died, in special cases such as story sequences you might have to restart the sequence.
If you have a Phoenix Down you can respawn at your last location before the battle instead of at your spawn point.
